Main Street Delaware needs your help to make our Historic Downtown the front porch for the whole city.
How can I help?
Main Street Delaware, Inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, is the force behind many of the downtown events that make Delaware such a welcoming, inviting, and vibrant city: First Friday celebrations, Farmers’ Markets, Summer on Winter concerts, and “Home for the Holidays,” including the Tree Lighting, Santa’s House, Carriage Rides, Dash for Dasher scavenger hunt, Holiday Shopping Extravaganza, and Holiday Parade. Main Street and its volunteers put on all of these events – and more – with most of them being free to the public.
Contributions to Main Street Delaware support all of the events you know and love. Your generous gifts also fund Main Street’s projects to preserve our historic past and prepare for the future – with a Strategic Plan for the downtown and east-side business districts and a Welcome Center in the historic building at 20 E. William Street with public restrooms and a literal Front Porch.
Why now?
The pandemic has slowed our momentum, but Main Street Delaware wants to continue to grow and serve the community – to fill some much-needed roles that will make and keep Delaware a Vibrant Downtown Destination. We need a place for locals and visitors to get information about the community and its opportunities and events. We need public restrooms. We need a coordinated plan between the Downtown and Riverfront District so that both thrive. And we need to resume the events that create and sustain community.
The time to act is now. Main Street has secured a long-term lease of the historic 20 E. William Building. It is in discussions with consultants on a strategic plan. Now, it just needs the funds to make these dreams for the future a reality.
How do I give?
You can direct your tax-deductible gift to one of three important areas:
- The Physical Front Porch. These funds will be used to renovate and maintain the historic 20 E. William Street building to accommodate a Welcome Center with information about local events, public restrooms, and offices and storage for Main Street Delaware. Our fundraising goal is $210,000.
- The Porch Partnership. Gifts to The Porch Partnership will be used to support the development of a Strategic Plan connecting the Riverfront District and Downtown Delaware to create a strong and vibrant connection that links these areas in planned and thoughtful ways to support their long-term viability and success. Our fundraising goal is $30,000.
- The Place-Making Porch. These funds will support Main Street Operations and Programming, helping us to resume holding our much-loved events in downtown Delaware.
