Nicole Fowles has been a member of the Main Street Delaware board of directors twice. First serving from 2012 – 2018, then joining again in 2022, she joined various MSD committees between (and during) her board tenures.
We spent a little time with Nicole to get to know her and what she loves about Delaware.
Tell us a little about yourself outside of your MSD duties: I am the Communications Coordinator for the Delaware County District Library, where I have worked since 2011. I am the proud wife of the new Delaware Hayes Marching Band Director and mama to two smart, creative, wild, funny, beautiful girls. When I’m not listening to an audiobook, I enjoy singing with the Delaware Community Chorus and attending as much live theatre as my budget and time allows (which isn’t nearly as much as I’d like). Shop local. Read books. Support the arts.
Why did you want to be a part of the MSD board?: Downtown Delaware has always reminded me of my hometown in New Philadelphia, Ohio. It’s cozy, welcoming, and full of wonderful people. Downtown was the primary reason why my husband and I first moved here in 2009. I realized what a special thing we had with Main Street Delaware. Once I joined the board in 2012, it was going to be hard to keep me away. I’ve been involved in every aspect of Main Street, including acting as an unofficial interim while we transitioned between directors. It’s one of my greatest joys to give my time to Main Street.
What do you love about Delaware?: I love the people who call Delaware home. There’s a t-shirt that was recently made that says “Delaware Has Heart” and I don’t know if there’s a more perfect way to encapsulate the feeling of all those who choose to spend their time here. Whether it’s residents, business owners, or visitors, I find that we have some of the most amazing people in Delaware. We support each other and truly embody the definition of “community.”
What’s your favorite Main Street event?: The December (Home for the Holidays) tree lighting has now become a family tradition.
What is your favorite downtown business?: Hard to choose! One of the first places my husband and I fell in love with was Staas Brewing Company. We feel like family there.
